The 2022 call for program proposals has been enhanced to support more of NBOA’s learning channels:

- Net Assets magazine: Bi-monthly, in print with a regularly updated online version
- Elevate: the 2022 NBOA Annual Meeting & Business Solutions Showcase
There is no shortage of opportunities to share your insights and successes to elevate the industry throughout the coming year, as we seek to fill all the learning channels.
We are looking for program proposals on pressing issues and creative solutions that business officers and other independent school leaders and professionals can learn from, and implement, back at their own schools. Key learning areas include: strategic finance, human resources, accounting/audit and tax, facilities and operations, risk management, governance, compensation and benefits, endowment and investing, enrollment and financial aid, auxiliary programs, technology, and leadership.
The 2022 NBOA Annual Meeting is scheduled for February 20-23 in Chicago, with a plan to offer certain virtual elements. In-person events remain fluid at this time. We will be making every effort to keep program presenters and attendees updated with developments as circumstances change regarding the Annual Meeting. As always, any decision regarding the meeting will prioritize the safety and security of all attendees.
A hallmark of the NBOA community is the high degree of collegiality and peer-to-peer learning among the national membership. No matter how the information is presented, this call for programs will allow NBOA to provide rich and timely content to our members and the independent school industry throughout the year.
NBOA provides members with a variety of ways to learn. We will use the submissions gathered in this call for programs to curate the 2021-2022 webinar series and Net Assets articles, as well as the 2022 NBOA Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting features in-person, hour-long concurrent sessions and a limited number of "deep dive" sessions, as well as shorter virtual goldmine sessions, which are offered on-demand.
Proposal selection will consider the needs and interests of the anticipated audience, and the ideal format for delivery. Proposals should consider the breadth of experience and expertise exemplified in the NBOA membership. Ideally, proposals will represent members in their first years working in independent schools as well as those with decades of experience and should indicate any knowledge or experience deemed necessary for the audience (see below for more information on session levels).
Other factors considered include the value of proposed content and learning objectives, session speakers and format, as well as whether the information is new or different. Live presentations, such as the webinars or annual meeting sessions, may utilize case studies from independent schools and provide a high degree of participant engagement.
Preference will be given to presentations that address this year’s Elevate theme. This could include highlighting success in innovation or lessons learned from failures that have been elevated to create change throughout a school’s business or operations. We are also looking for programs that incorporate BIIS data where appropriate and are unique to, or first offered to, NBOA. Submissions from NBOA member schools and business partners are preferred, though membership does not guarantee selection.
In order to accommodate each learner’s preferences and prior experience, presentations are offered in a variety of formats and levels.
- Annual Meeting Concurrent Session: 50- to 60-minute sessions, including content delivery and brief time for Q&A.
- Annual Meeting Deep Dives: 75- to 90-minute sessions, allowing for additional opportunities for participant engagement on plenary-level topics.
- Annual Meeting Goldmines: 15-minute presentations pre-recorded and available to attendees throughout the Annual Meeting. This type of presentation is well-suited to sharing a single idea or tool that has optimized one aspect of independent school business operations for you and your school.
- Webinars: NBOA offers webinars a minimum of 18 times throughout the year, with additional programs added for timely or urgent topics. Webinars are typically an hour in length.
- Net Assets: Net Assets articles are published in both the award-winning Net Assets magazine (six times per year) and online at NetAssets.org.
- Basic: Requires limited or no prior knowledge about independent school business or the specific topic are necessary for participation and comprehension of the information presented.
- Intermediate: Requires an understanding of independent school business to be able to fully participate and apply the learnings presented.
- Advanced: Considered strategic and require substantial knowledge and experience in independent school business or leadership. They focus on the long-term viability of independent schools, change management, and strategic opportunities and challenges in school business operations.

To ensure a fair, effective and efficient selection process, we have developed the following guidelines:
- Proposals must be submitted by the submission deadline using the Call for Programs platform.
- For full consideration, your program proposal must include all required information at the time of submission. Please make sure you have explicit consent from each co-presenter when adding them to your submission. Program proposals with incomplete information or speaker information "to be determined" will not be considered.
- Business partners are strongly encouraged to present content; however, submissions that directly promote a business or product will not be accepted. Business partner proposals that include one or more co-presenters from an independent school have a much greater chance of being selected.
- NBOA reserves the right to edit presentation titles, learning objectives and presentation descriptions.
- For the Annual Meeting, NBOA reserves the right to schedule sessions as appropriate over the entire meeting and cannot guarantee a specific date or time for a session.
- NBOA will not accept a proposal with more than three speakers total for a concurrent session, deep dive, or webinar. Please use the presenter fields in the Call for Programs platform to list the speakers. Presenters listed in the “Notes” section of the submission will not be included in the program, nor will the submitter be included with the submission’s presenters.
- Goldmine sessions have only one speaker, so if your session is selected as a Goldmine, we will assume the primary presenter on the proposal will serve in that role.
- Organizations may submit a maximum of three session proposals. Additional submissions will not be considered.
- All presenters/speakers selected for the NBOA Annual Meeting presentations must register and submit payment for the NBOA Annual Meeting (full or single-day registration fee) and complete all required tasks.
- All expenses related to registration, travel and lodging are the responsibility of each individual speaker/presenter. In addition, speakers must make their own travel arrangements and book their own lodging.
- All presenters must agree to all responsibilities. It is the lead presenter's responsibility to advise co-presenters of these responsibilities.
- If your program is accepted, all speakers included on the submission form must be registered and present at the NBOA Annual Meeting. NBOA reserves the right to cancel any program due to speaker substitutions after the program has been accepted. All speaker changes must be submitted to NBOA prior to October 1, 2021.
NBOA uses a third-party event management platform for program submissions through the Call for Programs. This is a separate system from the NBOA website, so you will not use your NBOA website password to log in – you will need to create an account on the platform before submitting a proposal.
The advantages of the submission platform are:
- You can start a submission, save it, and continue editing it later.
- Having an account makes it easier to submit and manage multiple proposals.
- It streamlines the review process for NBOA and allows for easier communication between the Review Committee and submitters.
