Tom Arnold

Chief Financial Officer, Western Reserve Academy, Hudson, OH

Upon joining Western Reserve Academy in 2014, Thomas Arnold brought business operations expertise from experience in both higher education and independent schools. Holding a master's degree in business administration, Tom has served in roles at Robert Morris University, Chatham University and as vice president for finance and administration at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh. As chief financial officer at WRA, he leads all areas of finance and operations, including human resources, facilities and auxiliary operations departments. Additionally, Tom ensures compliance in all risk management and legal matters. His experience in strategic planning enables him to balance best practices in long term fiscal sustainability with appropriate resources for the daily operations of an active and exciting boarding school community. The recipient of Crain's CFO of the Year award, Tom is also a WRA parent.

Alex Heiberger

Alex Heiberger

Chief Financial Officer, The Madeira School, McLean, VA

Alex Heiberger joined Madeira as CFO in spring of 2014. He earned his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Albany and holds a master's degree in health services administration from The George Washington University. Prior to Madeira he spent 17 years with Georgetown University, where he served most recently as associate dean of administration and finance for the School of Nursing & Health Studies. Alex has leadership experience in higher education, health care management and medical center operations. In addition, he has more than a decade of service on the board of directors of Hoya Federal Credit Union.

Valerie Hughes is now in her 18th year at Hathaway Brown, where she serves as associate head for finance and administration. Val is involved in not only large-scale strategic planning initiatives, but also day-to-day initiatives to ensure consistency and prudence. Among the many projects she has shepherded at HB is the construction of the Jewett-Brown Academic Center, which includes a four-story glass atrium, the state-of-the-art Carol and John Butler Aquatic Center, and an all-new turf field — a rarity for schools HB's size. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business sciences from Cleveland State University, and she serves as treasurer for the National Coalition of Girls' Schools. Prior to her tenure at HB, she worked for 17 years at the YWCA of Greater Cleveland, including eight years as CFO. She also spent a decade working in higher education, as the vice president for finance and administration at Ursuline College. Additionally, she has served on the board of the Midwest Business Officers Association, including a year as president.

Donna Pacchioni

Interim Director of Finance and Operations, Kentucky Country Day School, Louisville, KY

Donna Pacchioni is currently the interim director of finance and operations at Kentucky Country Day School, in Louisville, Kentucky. Donna recently retired as CFO at Hawken School in Cleveland after 17 years there. Prior to her time in independent schools, Donna worked in banking as controller, head of retail and head of deposit products. While with Hawken School, Donna worked on bond financing, property acquisition and construction, a school merger and other major projects. Hawken School has a recent history of innovation, and Donna partnered with the head of school and other administrators to successfully launch a number of initiatives. Donna serves on the NBOA Board of Directors, the board of a startup school in Liberia and the advisory board of the College of Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University.

Adam Wojtelwicz

Adam Wojtelwicz

Chief Financial Officer, Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA

Since 2008, Adam Wojtelwicz has been the chief financial officer for The Shipley School, a preschool to grade 12 independent day school with an enrollment of more than 800 students. Adam has been working in the nonprofit sector his entire career. Formerly, he was the CFO for Foundations, Inc., a nonprofit committed to improving educational experiences for children. For eight years, he was also the director of finance for Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware, which is an independent, college-prep day high school. Prior to this, Adam served for six years as the financial planning manager for the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, where he managed capital projects and the budget as well as financial forecasting models. Adam holds an MBA with a concentration in management from Eastern University and a bachelor's in business management from Kentucky Wesleyan College. He is also on the board of directors of the Philadelphia Area Independent Schools Business Officers Association.
