Part time position: 30 hours per week; includes benefits. Salary negotiable and based on experience and credentials. Start Date: June 1, 2010.
The Business Manager is accountable to the Head of School, works closely with the volunteer Board of Trustees, Treasurer and Finance Committee, and manages the resources of the school in support of students and employees. The Business Manager plans and manages the school’s business affairs including finances, human resources, and insurance.
Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day financial operations, keeping an accurate and continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school.
• Monitor bank account balances and submit requests to Head of School when fund transfers are required.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Maintain record of all deposits, including application of tuition payments to students’ accounts.
• Prepare statements as required on students’ accounts and report past-due accounts to Head of School.
• Compile monthly payroll information and coordinate payroll preparation with outside payroll processor.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, monthly operating statements, and quarterly forecasts for current fiscal year and submit to the Head of School and Treasurer.
• Provide monthly reports of expenditures as needed by the Head of School and Treasurer.
• Provide reporting to external stakeholders (banks) as required per the terms of financing agreements.
• Assemble the annual budget and long range plan in the fall of each year.
• Establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget that will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s tuition at a Board of Trustees meeting in the fall of the academic year.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast year-end results.
• Manage existing contracts and negotiate new ones with vendors for non-academic services.
• Manage the annual external audit of the school’s financial records.
• Manage employee benefits program.
• Maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school. Includes property, liability, worker’s comp, and student accident insurance.
• Assist the Head of School with data regarding salaries and benefits for all personnel.
• Attend monthly board meetings as needed.
• Support the school and its leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Professional Qualifications:
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting or related School Finance field; Master's Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in non-profit independent school business and operations
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) highly desirable
