What conferences does NBOA offer?
The
Symposium is held concurrently with the NAIS Annual Conference. For 2008 it will be held in New York City.
The 2007
Summer Institute was held at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA.
The
Institute for Advanced Financial Management is held for
NBOA Members only each year. In 2007 it took place in New York City. This program is designed for senior business officers: those with at least 10 years experience or those at schools with budgets in excess of $10 million. It is limited to 30 participants.
Does NBOA offer any in-depth training on particular subjects?
We offer two-day seminars that are open to a limited number of people and delve deeply in such topics as
Advanced Employment Law and an
Accounting Seminar which examines new accounting standards and financial and audit interpretations that affect independent schools.
What is the NBOA Listserv?
The
NBOA Listserv is an
email discussion group that is open to all business officers and their staff members. There are 700 participants. It is an active listserv with many postings every day.
What is a Business Officer?
In K-12 independent (private) schools, the
Chief Financial Officer has many titles. Business Officer is the term that tries to include all the other titles. This is the person who is responsible for all the financial operations of the school. Additionally this person usually oversees the plant operation, the foodservice and transportation services. It is a great job if you like multi-tasking! Go to our
