La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) is an independent college-preparatory school serving students from age 3 through grade 12.
Founded by Louise C. Balmer in 1926, LJCDS was originally named Balmer School and began as a school house for four children. Nearly three decades later, Balmer and a group of dedicated parents saw the need for an independent day school, which would include middle and upper school classes as well. The school now known as LJCDS received its charter in 1955 and moved to its current location in 1961.
Today the school sits on 24-acre campus in the greater San Diego area and serves nearly 1,200 students. In 2007, it was voted the best private school in San Diego by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
