We are the only national association that focuses on the financial and operational health of independent schools. We are a solution-oriented community that helps its members run their schools efficiently.
The National Business Officers Association (NBOA) is the definitive professional resource and leading advocate for Independent School Business Officers. Through programs, online tools, and research on emerging issues, NBOA helps to develop solutions for effective and sustainable operations in independent schools.
Founded by 23 business officers in 1998, NBOA was, and remains, the only national professional association for the business officer in the country. The founders sought to create a community that would, for the first time, connect business officers with each other to promote best practices and standards of excellence within their institutions and the industry at large. Since its inception, NBOA has enjoyed continued success and expansion, with a membership that currently includes over 600 schools, representing every region in the country and several sites outside the United States. Today, NBOA member schools’ combined enrollment is about 271,000 students, with combined budgets of more than $6.1 billion.
NBOA knows that it is all too common for the business officer to feel alone. By joining the vibrant, vocal NBOA community, online and in person, the business officer suddenly feels surrounded by people who “get it.” The community provides answers—person to person, business officer to business officer—to the myriad questions which challenge our schools every day. NBOA knows the business officer wears many hats—you can hang them all here.
