NBOA's Symposium 2010 was held February 22-24 at The Fairmont San Francisco. This world-renowned hotel sits high atop Nob Hill with a panoramic view of the City and the Bay. Located at the intersection of each of the city's cable car lines, The Fairmont offers convenient access to Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square, shopping, and sightseeing, as well as gracious meeting spaces and elegant hotel rooms.
Our theme for Symposium 2010 was "Building Bridges, Sharing Solutions." Nationally recognized speakers and small group presenters shared their solutions to the short-term and long-term challenges facing today's business officer—from financial sustainability to regulatory compliance to going green. NBOA repeated its successful format of varied presentations and events, including keynote speeches, in-depth seminars, small concurrent sessions, our evening vendor reception, our festive annual dinner, and, of course, our famous goldmines.
NBOA offered a one-day rate on Wednesday, February 24 for heads of school, senior administrators, and trustees. The special rate was $195 per colleague for member schools and $350 per colleague for non-member schools. We held sessions of interest to school teams, including a concurrent session by keynote speaker Maggie Jackson on the impact of our media-saturated culture on students and families, and an afternoon workshop on financial sustainability.
Symposium 2010 offered morning, afternoon, and all-day seminars, on topics ranging from financial modeling (three different sessions, back by popular demand!), to summer programs, financial aid, and effective management. There was a two-part seminar designed for business officers in the first few years of their careers, and a special all-day seminar for experienced business officers with more than ten years in the profession. Each seminar was limited to 25 participants.
