Explore topics such as e-discovery, taxable technology use by employees, cyber-bullying, free speech, liability for photos and video, electronic communications with parents, personal device jurisdiction, (ab)uses of Facebook, and much more in this jam-packed presentation.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn to address the technological legal, financial, social, educational, employment and policy concerns facing schools

Demonstration of 3D Interactive White Board and Discussion
Dr. David Birchfield, Associate Professor Arizona State University and Co-Founder SMALLab Learning
The Situated Multimedia Arts Learning Lab, or SMALLab, is an embodied learning environment. In it, motion-capture technology tracks students' 3D movements as they learn, immersed in an interactive space. For example, as students are learning about a physics concept like velocity, they can hear the sound of their actions getting faster. They can see graphs and equations that represent their motions in real time. They can feel the weight of an object in their hand as they interact in real physical space. View a demonstration of this amazing technology.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn how the SMALLLab concept can introduce new technology to staff and students at their independent school
Field of Study: Specialized Knowledge and Applications
Program Level: Basic CPE Hours: 1.5

Group Work Review pages 5-6 of the Report, which identifies some of the critical challenges that schools face, especially those that are likely to continue to affect education in the next five years, including:
- Digital media literacy continues its rise in importance as a key skill in every discipline and profession.
- Economic pressures and new models of education are presenting unprecedented competition to the traditional models of schools.
- The demand for personalized learning is not adequately supported by current technology or practices.
- A key challenge is the fundamental structure of the K-12 education establishment—aka, "the system."
- Many activities related to learning and education take place outside the walls of the classroom and thus are not part of our learning metrics.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn through brainstorming how to address the critical challenges affecting today’s independent schools
