The NBOA Essentials of Business Office Leadership is a 10-week online course designed for both business officers new to independent schools and for more experienced administrators who want to gain new insight and perspective about the many facets of the business officer's day-to-day responsibilities and strategic leadership role.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of independent school business operations, and learn leadership techniques and management skills to apply at their school. In addition, participants will discover resources for ongoing operational support, and establish a national learning community of peers with whom they can continue to explore the concepts of business administration and leadership within independent schools.

Using case studies, video lectures by industry experts, and a variety of resources, business officers will have an opportunity to delve into subjects of greatest relevance to them and their school. Topics will include: independent school culture and governance, the role of the business officer, the annual calendar of school operations, financial planning and budgeting, tuition management and accounts receivable strategies, accounting and audits, human resources, facilities, operations, and compliance. Class size will be limited to 20 participants. Upon satisfactory completion of the full course, participants will receive a certificate recognizing this accomplishment. Successful completion of the course will also entitle participants to attend the 2013 or 2014 NBOA Annual Meeting or 2013 NBOA Business Officer Institute at a discounted registration rate.

The Essentials of Business Office Leadership is being offered in partnership between NBOA and the Online School for Girls.
